Hardwood Floor Repair in Greater Victoria

Not every floor needs the whole treatment. Sometimes it is a few damaged boards, a gouge from a moved appliance, or a cracked plank that needs replacing before the rest gets refinished.

What board repair covers

Repair work ranges from filling and colour-matching small gouges to lifting and replacing individual damaged boards. On an older home, the tricky part is matching. Old-growth fir and vintage oak are not identical to what the lumber yard sells today, so we source reclaimed boards or blend replacements so the repair does not stand out once the whole floor is finished.

Repairs are almost always done as the first step of a recoat or full refinish, because a fresh finish over the whole floor is what makes a patched board disappear. A standalone repair on a floor you are not refinishing will usually leave a visible seam.

When to fix versus refinish

If the damage is localized, a spilled-on spot, a pet-scratched threshold, a plank split by a dropped tool, repair plus a recoat of the room is often enough. If the damage is spread across the floor, it usually makes more sense to repair the worst boards and then fully refinish, so everything ends up the same colour and sheen.

The honest test is whether a fix will actually be invisible once done. Having done a lot of character-home floors, we can look at the boards and tell you whether a repair will blend or whether you are better off refinishing the room. We would rather give you that read than take money patching a floor that needed a sand-back anyway.
